Ed Gilliland, CEcD, AICP, PMP is van der Becq’s trusted strategic alliance advisor for our client’s solar and other renewable energy projects. Ed is currently also the senior director for The Solar Foundation. His focus includes the Solsmart municipal and county designations, American Cities Climate Challenge, Solar Automated Permit Processing (SolarAPP), Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (CPACE), Solar Ready Vets, and the National Solar Jobs Census. He was principal author for the 2015 – 2018 National Solar Jobs Census reports and the 2017 Solar Schools report. Prior to joining The Solar Foundation, Ed was Vice President at the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) where he managed their Advisory Services and Research Department. He directed all local, state, federal, and international consulting work, completing over 80 projects in 65 cities and regions.
Ed's certifications include certified planner (AICP), economic development professional (CEcD), and project management professional (PMP).
Ed is also a competitive kayaker, and runs the largest board game circuit in Greater DC.
Ed holds an MS in Management of Information Systems (Univ. of Virginia – McIntire School of Commerce), an MBA in Finance (Univ. of Virginia – Darden Graduate School of Business Administration), a Certificate in Data Science (Georgetown Univ.), a Certificate in Real Estate Development (Harvard Univ. Graduate School of Design). He was once known to be passably understandable in Mandarin.
